Olathe KS is the second largest of 21 communities in Johnson County Kansas and is the 5th largest city in the state. With a population of 115,000, Olathe is located 20 minutes southwest of downtown Kansas City. Once isolated from Kansas City, Olathe has all of the cultural benefits of a major metropolitan area. Kansas City's growth southward has now pushed all the way to Olathe's northern boundaries.
Olathe Kansas was founded by Dr. John Barton in 1857 when he staked two sections of land as the town site. William Quantrill led Confederate Missouri guerrillas raided Olathe in 1862 and destroyed most of the city. The city was raided as a result of its abolitionist stance. Olathe was a stopping point for travelers heading westward on the Oregon, California and Santa Fe Trails. At the time, the Mahaffie House was a significant resupply station for wagons. T he construction of the transcontinental railroad led Olathe back into obscurity. Then in the 1950's the construction of Interstate 35 provided Olathe KS a new economic boom. Olathe's growth accelerated in the 1980's and shows no sign of stopping today. The city continues to grow southward and westward.
Olathe's quality of life makes it a popular place to live. Home prices in Olathe Kansas range from $80,000 to $1.5 Million+ with the average home price being $230,000. Housing types available include Single Family Homes, Multi Family Homes, Townhomes, Villas, New Home Construction Communities, Subdivision Developments, First Time Home Buyers, Commercial Property, Luxury Homes, Golf Course Communities, Retirement Communities and Farm Land.
