Overland Park Kansas was incorporated in 1960 with a population of 29,000.  The city now has 160,000+ residents, making it the second most populated city in Kansas.  Before it's incorporation, Overland Park was part of Mission Urban Township.  At that time Mission Urban Township included the cities of Prairie Village and Mission Kansas.  An important factor in Overland Park's formation is its location on land that all other local communities cast aside.  Overland Park's roots can be traced back to its founder William B. Strang Jr.  In the early 1900's Strang platted subdivisions along the military roadway and he wanted to produce a well planned community with a park-like feel.  Other factors important to Strang were maintaining a prosperous commerce and offering quality education.
