Many of these immigrants changed plans and decided to stay and live in what is now known as Lenexa Kansas. Octave Chanute "founded" Lenexa in the late 1800's as railroads began entering the area. The St. Louis & San Francisco Railroad purchased the town site and had it platted in 1869. The city was then incorporated in 1907. As Kansas City grew westward Lenexa became a popular place for young families to live and for businesses to operate. Lenexa Kansas continues to grow in western Johnson County KS.
